Hello, I’m Anna.

Somatic, dance/movement, sensorimotor, and pre/perinatal psychotherapist. Working from a small therapy space in Boulder, and online across Colorado.

In the darkest moments of my life, I was lucky to find support. I consider it a privilege to stretch out my hand and search for the light with you.

About

I experienced six relocations in the course of thirteen years. Each time I had to start my life from scratch — make a living, find people, learn a language. Most of those years I lived without a single friend or family member nearby.

What I learned, slowly, is that life transitions are never just events. They reshape who we are. Moving to a new place, starting or ending a relationship, navigating a health crisis, becoming a parent — these things can be isolating in ways that surprise us. It may not seem this way now, but there is life on the other side. You can find passion and meaning. You can find your people. You can be open to welcoming new opportunities that often follow the crisis. It is possible.

I’ve been working as a psychotherapist since 2007 — first in Russia, in psychiatric hospitals, private counseling centers, Montessori schools, and a children’s shelter. I worked with youth navigating extreme circumstances of neglect, abuse, violence, and substance use. Through expressive play, theater improvisation, developmental movement, and dance/movement therapy, I learned what the body can do when words don’t reach yet.

When I came to the United States, I went to Naropa University in Boulder for a Master’s in Somatic Counseling Psychology — a tradition that places the body at the center of therapeutic work, not the periphery. I’ve been in clinical practice in the US for the last four years.

AnnaSoma is the home for that practice now.

At the center of my work: human connection, emotional regulation, and a deep curiosity about the unique manifestations of life in this world.

What I believe about the work

The body learns first; words catch up later.

Most of what hurts is encoded in the body before language existed for it. My work isn’t to give you new ideas about your story — it’s to help your body discover that the danger has passed, and to give it tools to meet stress with compassion instead of automatic alarm.

We can learn to recognize nervous system states.

In sessions, we make space for fear, anger, love, joy, and grief to move through your body without getting stuck. We work toward staying in connection — with yourself, with the people who matter, with the world.

The body is part of a bigger web.

Bodies aren’t isolated. They live inside systems and cultures that shape them — sometimes nurturing, sometimes wounding. I work with awareness that your body’s responses make sense in the contexts that formed them.

When I’m not in a session

I value play, spaciousness, nuances, and time near the water — where I stop hearing my thoughts and watch the bubbles of the creek appear from a gargling stream and pop out without warning.

I love my morning walks when the light breeze brushes my hair and I can fill my lungs with cool morning air. I take long hikes with my family. I appreciate creativity and expressive arts of all forms. I enjoy live music and often can’t stop myself from moving to the rhythm.

My happy place is to create small performances using nature as inspiration and active participant.

I bring these values as a gentle invitation to the therapy room — to encourage you to find your inspirations and the things that bring you closer to your true self.
